AB685 - Human Right to Water

Clean, safe drinking water is an essential right that is rapidly drying up in California. Pollution and unreliable water supplies are forcing a growing number of Californians to purchase drinking water outside the home or risk drinking toxic water.

AB 685 is a common sense bill to establish the right to safe water statewide but, behind closed doors, Legislative leadership is trading away that basic right to powerful special interest groups.

Shocked by the Legislative leadership’s inability to pass a basic right to ensure Californians access to safe drinking water (AB 685), citizens are rising up.

Frustrated and confused, they want to know why a basic right endorsed by the United Nations and other states around the country is being denied Californians. And they’re bringing their concerns, grievances and samples of the toxic water many are forced to drink to the Capitol.
